Abandoned Women by Lucy Frost. Author Lucy Frost memorably paints a picture of a boat load of women and their children who arrived in Hobart in 1838. They were sent to work as unpaid servants for settlers. But being feisty Scoittish convicts they were not used to bowing and scraping, they often irritated their employers. If punished they were sent to a female work factory. However, many survived the system, married and had children. While some found a place in society others were plagued by errors, disasters and death.
