Ken Scutt and the Missing Memorial Cup

Ken Scutt and the Missing Memorial Cup

When researching the Scutt family for a chapter in my book, I made an incredible discovery. I came across Ken Scutt!

Some football names should live on in Gwydir's rugby league community long after the last whistle, and Ken Scutt is one of them. I would argue that Ken was one of the greatest footballers produced in the Gwydir Shire. At the moment, I cannot think of anyone better. For example, at just 15, he played in the second row during a Spicer Cup challenge, one of the pinnacles of local rugby league.

Ken’s story is a great one, and I am sure that everyone who reads the Scutt chapter in Bingara Our Town, Our People Volume 2 will agree with me: football lovers across the Gwydir Shire should make every effort to find the Ken Scutt Memorial Cup, last seen at the Royal Hotel in Warialda in the early 1960s. If you have a lead, please contact me, Rodney, on 0428 241 500. It would be fantastic to see clubs in our area challenging for the Ken Scutt Cup again.

Read more of Ken’s story, along with 40 great historical stories, in Bingara Our Town, Our People Volume 2. It’s one way to keep Bingara’s rich history and the people of Bingara the Gem of the New England close.
