After the gold rush faded, many Chinese prospectors moved on — but not Ah Sing. He stayed, built a life, and became a familiar figure on Bingara's streets as a market gardener, supplying fresh vegetables to the community he'd made his home. Tragically, his story ended in heartbreak when his horse-drawn cart rolled on the way to market, leaving him with terrible injuries from which he did not recover. Black Prince — The Bingara Horse Who Went to England
When Lord Baden-Powell heroically defended the Siege of Mafeking during the Boer War, the people of NSW wanted to honour him with a gift worthy of a hero — a military charger. The horse they chose was Black Prince, born on Bangheet Station, Bingara. Black Prince sailed to England with Baden-Powell, where his noble bearing caught the eye of a famous animal artist. He became a model for paintings, and — remarkably — a painting of him appeared in the 1915 edition of the children's classic Black Beauty. A Bingara horse, immortalised in one of the world's most beloved books.
Warren Burns — Bingara's Olympic Dream
Warren Burns had his first fight at the Roxy Theatre, Bingara — and from those humble beginnings, he went on to become NSW Country Featherweight Champion. He won NSW Silver Medals on two occasions and reached the final trials to represent Australia at the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games. An extraordinary achievement for a young man from a small country town. Warren's story is one of determination, talent, and the kind of quiet local heroism that rarely makes the history books — until now.
